You may forget but Let me tell you this: someone in some future time will think of us. — Sappho I found this quote today in Paul Monette’s essay collection, Last Watch of the Night, after asking him what I should write about and opening to a random page. He loves quoting Sappho, and I love that about him. I love the way he reaches back to his own queer ancestors, as I reach back to him.
This is a necessary reflection, Finn. I am deeply looking forward to your chapbook! What do you think of David Wojnarowicz's work (his mixed media art and his intense prose)? In 1986, I met him and his friend Peter Hujar at a party hosted by Guy C. McElroy, my dear friend. Guy told me that this was an important party because Peter was sick. David was in a corner chain smoking and talking intently with Gloria Phellps who introduced me to him, identifying me as a "street kid." I was furious and preferred to share details of my life on my own accord, but the information intrigued David who opened up about his life on the streets. Flash forward to the early 1990s just after David died...only then did I begin reading his writing.
Kudos on your chapbook! So glad I found you here as I'm (for the most part off of FB and WOTR. Will you share a link for the chapbook when available?
Powerful and beautiful.
Can't wait to read your chapbook!

Love this line, ”I don’t remember if my girlfriend read at the event, or if we were just scoping it out, her gathering her courage for another time…”
Again — so well written! And I, too, am looking forward to reading your chapbook!
